Plan before you register

Course registration is the highest-leverage academic decision you make each term, and most students make it without doing the arithmetic. Before you lock in a schedule, model it: enter your prior CGPA and completed credits, then add the courses you intend to take with realistic expected grades.

Be honest about expected grades

The temptation is to enter the grade you hope for. Enter the grade your performance in similar courses predicts. A plan built on optimistic inputs will tell you everything is fine right up until it is not. Model a realistic case and a pessimistic case, if the pessimistic case still clears your probation threshold or scholarship minimum, the schedule is safe.

Credit load is a strategic choice

A heavier load means more credits in the denominator. If you expect a strong semester, that amplifies the benefit. If you expect a difficult one, it amplifies the damage. Students recovering from probation are often better served by a lighter, well-executed load than a heavy one they cannot sustain.

Watch the courses that matter

Sort your planned courses by credit hours. The 4-credit courses determine your semester. Allocate study time in proportion to credits and difficulty, not in proportion to how interesting you find the subject.
