The official grade-to-point mapping, how it is applied, and where it comes from.
BUET departments publish this undergraduate 0.25-step scale. Programme-specific rules can add progression, probation and repeat-course requirements; use the applicable BUET regulations for the student’s programme.

2.20. The minimum GPA for obtaining a bachelor's degree in engineering, URP or architecture at BUET is 2.20, and the same figure defines good academic standing. This is higher than the 2.00 many Bangladeshi universities use, so do not rely on the general national figure.
Yes. BUET applies a credit-progress test alongside the GPA test. If your earned credits fall below 15 times the number of terms you have attended, you can be placed on probation regardless of your GPA. Students who drop courses repeatedly, or who take reduced loads over several terms, are the ones most likely to trip this rule.
Probation lasts a minimum of one term but usually runs for an academic year, and is extended until you reach 2.20. A student on academic probation who fails to maintain at least 2.20 across two consecutive academic years may be suspended. A suspended student may petition the Dean, but the petition is not considered until at least one full term has passed.
Not freely. BUET restricts grade-improvement retakes, and a student who has obtained a B is not permitted to repeat that course for improvement purposes. You may take up to 15 additional credits beyond your degree requirements to raise your GPA, with your adviser's consent.
BUET follows the UGC of Bangladesh uniform grading scale, which is built on 0.25 increments: 4.00, 3.75, 3.50, 3.25, 3.00 and so on. Pakistani and most Indian scales use 0.33 or 0.67 steps instead. A B+ is worth 3.25 at BUET but 3.33 at COMSATS, a small difference that compounds across a degree.
