The official grade-to-point mapping, how it is applied, and where it comes from.
IBA Karachi grades absolutely under its official Grading Plan: your letter comes from your marks, not from the class distribution. Note the unusually high top band. An A needs 93%, and the F line sits at 59%, so there is no D grade at all. Course marks are weighted 60% semester work and 40% final examination, though the Institute reserves the right to vary this. Both the Main and City campuses use identical criteria.
| Grade | Points | Marks | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 4.00 | 93–100% | — |
| A- | 3.67 | 87–92% | — |
| B+ | 3.33 | 82–86% | — |
| B | 3.00 | 77–81% | — |
| B- | 2.67 | 72–76% | — |
| C+ | 2.33 | 68–71% | — |
| C | 2.00 | 64–67% | — |
| C- | 1.67 | 60–63% | Lowest passing grade. A C- or lower disqualifies a student from the Dean's List that semester. |
| F | 0.00 | 0–59% | Fail |
| Code | How it is treated |
|---|---|
| I | Incomplete. Excluded from the CGPA until it converts to a letter grade. |

IBA sets its own standard above the HEC baseline. You must maintain a cumulative 2.20 throughout your time at the Institute. Between 2.00 and 2.19 you receive a warning letter and go on probation for the next semester. Below 2.00 you are dropped from the rolls immediately, with no probation period. Students who reason from the more common 2.00 figure can be caught out by this.
If your final-semester CGPA is below 2.20 but at or above 2.00, you are required to repeat one semester of your lowest academic standing, or specific courses, to lift the CGPA to 2.20. You have one year to clear that deficiency. If you do not, you receive a transcript of credits rather than the degree itself.
No. The scale runs A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C- and then straight to F. C- at 60% is the lowest passing grade, and anything below 60% is an F worth 0.00. This is different from most HEC-aligned universities, which carry D+ and D grades down to around 50%.
No. It is a B+. IBA's bands are set high: A begins at 93%, A- at 87% and B+ at 82%. Students transferring from universities where A starts at 85% often misjudge this. The upside is that the bands are published and absolute, so you can always calculate exactly what you need.
No. Both campuses follow the same grading criteria and the same GPA and CGPA calculation.
