The University of Delhi is a central university with more than 90 colleges and 16 faculties. It is the single most important CGPA-conversion case in India because which formula applies depends on your admission batch.
8 grades sit on the scale. At the bottom of the scoring range sits P (4 points), reached at 40 to 44%.
CGPA × 9.5 (CBCS context; verify batch/programme) is used officially, though only in the admissions context it was written for. Treat it as valid there and provisional everywhere else.
A few numbers decide whether you graduate. Percentage, CBCS batches (pre-2023) runs to CGPA x 9.5. Percentage, NEP / UGCF batches (2023 onward) runs to CGPA x 10. Governing notification runs to Letter No. E.C. 20-21.07.2019 dated 18.10.2019.
Everything here rests on one document. When DU revises it, the numbers here follow, and until then the date at the top tells you how fresh the reading is.
| Grading mode | Absolute (CBCS / NEP) |
| GPA scale | 0.00 – 10.00 |
| Percentage — CBCS batches (pre-2023) | CGPA x 9.5 |
| Percentage — NEP / UGCF batches (2023 onward) | CGPA x 10 |
| Governing notification | Letter No. E.C. 20-21.07.2019 dated 18.10.2019 |
| CGPA → percentage status | Official in a specified institutional context |
CRITICAL: which multiplier applies depends on your batch. Students admitted under CBCS (pre-2023) use CGPA x 9.5, per DU Letter No. E.C. 20-21.07.2019 dated 18.10.2019. Students under the NEP / UGCF 2022 framework (2023 onward) commonly use CGPA x 10. Using the wrong one can misstate your percentage by up to 5 points. A perfect 10.0 CGPA equals 95% under CBCS, not 100%.
| Grade | Points | Marks | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| O | 10.00 | 90–100% | Outstanding |
| A+ | 9.00 | 80–89% | Excellent |
| A | 8.00 | 70–79% | Very Good |
| B+ | 7.00 | 60–69% | Good |
| B | 6.00 | 50–59% | Above Average |
| C | 5.00 | 45–49% | Average |
| P | 4.00 | 40–44% | Pass |
| F | 0.00 | 0–39% | Fail |
Not under CBCS. Using the official x 9.5 multiplier, a perfect 10.0 CGPA converts to 95%, not 100%. This routinely confuses both students and recruiters. If your department publishes something different, that version governs your transcript.
If you were admitted before 2023 under CBCS, use x 9.5. If you were admitted from 2023 onward under the NEP / UGCF 2022 framework, x 10 is commonly applied. Confirm with your college's examination branch, and choosing wrongly can shift your stated percentage by around 5 points.
