Peradeniya is Sri Lanka's largest university by student population and one of its oldest. It uses the standard Sri Lankan 4.0 structure with 0.3 and 0.7 increments, A and A+ both at 4.0, A- at 3.7, B+ at 3.3, and E rather than F as the fail grade. The important structural feature for planning is that the final GPA is not a flat average of everything: course levels are weighted, so in an honours degree the 1000-level courses contribute 20% and the 3000 and 4000 levels contribute 30% each. Your first year matters less than a naive CGPA calculation suggests, and your final two years matter considerably more.
The table runs to 12 grades. D is the floor, at 1 point.
That percentage is the product of a formula, not of a regulation. CGPA ร 25 (normalization estimate) stretches the 4-point scale to 100. It approximates, nothing more. No Peradeniya-issued conversion formula was found.
The thresholds worth memorising: Minimum GPA to pass the degree is set at 2.00. Top grades runs to A+ and A both carry 4.0; A- is 3.7. Fail grade runs to E (0.0), Sri Lankan scales use E rather than F.
Two things remain unverified here. Peradeniya grading and classification can vary by faculty and programme; this record uses university/faculty sources rather than University of Colombo material. Below the grade table there is another gap. Neither closes without an official source.
Most divergence between this tool and your transcript traces to a departmental exception. Any divergence is settled by the registrar, not by us. Have the document? Send it, and this page gets corrected.

University of Peradeniya faculties use a 4.0 grade-point framework, but the way marks become letters can vary by faculty. The Faculty of Agriculture, for example, explicitly describes distribution-based grading. Treat the grade-point table as a reference and follow the applicable faculty handbook for cut-offs and classification.

Not for the final degree GPA. Course levels carry different weights. For a B.Sc. the 1000 level counts 20%, the 2000 level 40% and the 3000 level 40%. For an honours degree it is 20% / 20% / 30% / 30% across the four levels. Our calculator computes the standard credit-weighted GPA, which is correct for a single level or semester, because apply the level weights yourself for a final degree projection, and confirm against your own faculty handbook.
A GPA of 3.70 or above is the headline requirement, but it is not sufficient on its own. The Faculty of Science also requires at least a grade C across a specified minimum number of credits, no E grades within the minimum credits required, and completion within the standard duration. For an honours specialisation you additionally need A grades or higher across at least 50% of your 3000 and 4000 level credits.
Sri Lankan universities conventionally use E as the lowest grade. It carries 0.0 grade points and functions exactly as an F does elsewhere. Peradeniya also has a specific rule that E grades must not appear within the minimum number of credits required for your degree, so an E is a structural obstacle to graduation, not only a numerical one.
Yes, in the detail. The 4.0 structure is shared, but percentage cut-offs, class thresholds and per-course conditions differ meaningfully between the Faculties of Science, Engineering, Medicine, Arts and Agriculture. The figures here follow the Faculty of Science handbook. Always confirm against your own faculty's by-laws before relying on a threshold.
AB means you were absent for the final examination and is assigned instead of a grade. NC means Not Complete, used where you did not finish some or all assessment components. NC changes to the earned grade once you complete the course.
