The official grade-to-point mapping, how it is applied, and where it comes from.
University of Peradeniya faculties use a 4.0 grade-point framework, but the way marks become letters can vary by faculty. The Faculty of Agriculture, for example, explicitly describes distribution-based grading. Treat the grade-point table as a reference and follow the applicable faculty handbook for cut-offs and classification.

Not for the final degree GPA. Course levels carry different weights. For a B.Sc. the 1000 level counts 20%, the 2000 level 40% and the 3000 level 40%. For an honours degree it is 20% / 20% / 30% / 30% across the four levels. Our calculator computes the standard credit-weighted GPA, which is correct for a single level or semester, because apply the level weights yourself for a final degree projection, and confirm against your own faculty handbook.
A GPA of 3.70 or above is the headline requirement, but it is not sufficient on its own. The Faculty of Science also requires at least a grade C across a specified minimum number of credits, no E grades within the minimum credits required, and completion within the standard duration. For an honours specialisation you additionally need A grades or higher across at least 50% of your 3000 and 4000 level credits.
Sri Lankan universities conventionally use E as the lowest grade. It carries 0.0 grade points and functions exactly as an F does elsewhere. Peradeniya also has a specific rule that E grades must not appear within the minimum number of credits required for your degree, so an E is a structural obstacle to graduation, not only a numerical one.
Yes, in the detail. The 4.0 structure is shared, but percentage cut-offs, class thresholds and per-course conditions differ meaningfully between the Faculties of Science, Engineering, Medicine, Arts and Agriculture. The figures here follow the Faculty of Science handbook. Always confirm against your own faculty's by-laws before relying on a threshold.
AB means you were absent for the final examination and is assigned instead of a grade. NC means Not Complete, used where you did not finish some or all assessment components. NC changes to the earned grade once you complete the course.
